Flow Compatibility

Fish originate from different environments. River fish (e.g., Danios, Hillstream Loaches) need high oxygen turnover. Swamp/Rice Paddy fish (e.g., Bettas, Gouramis) stress easily in high flow. This calculator strictly separates these groups.

Why was my favorite fish excluded?

It likely conflicted with your Tank Size, Flow Preference, or Selected Temperament. For example, Goldfish need High Flow but create massive bioload, making them incompatible with small filters.

What is “Niche Utilization”?

A balanced tank has fish in the Top, Middle, and Bottom. If you only buy bottom dwellers, the top looks empty and the bottom becomes territorial. Our algorithm rewards plans that fill at least 2 zones.
