With that out of the way.
For many kids, SpongeBob gets them interested in having an aquarium for the first time. After all, a marine science educator created the SpongeBob SquarePants series to teach kids about aquatic life. The cast of characters includes a sea sponge, starfish, octopus, sperm whale, and other ocean creatures.
Recreating the underwater city of Bikini Bottom can be great fun. And it will definitely be colorful.
This list of SpongeBob aquarium decorations includes buildings and characters from the show. You can get one piece for a fishbowl, add to your collection one piece at a time, or buy a 16-piece set that includes everything you need.
Top 6 SpongeBob Aquarium Decorations to Choose from
When you’re deciding on Spongebob aquarium decorations, there are so many fun buildings and characters you can put together to recreate Bikini Bottom in your tank.
Choosing a multi-colored substrate and adding brightly-colored plastic plants can make the tank pop even more with color.
Here are my favorite decorations for your tank:
SpongeBob Pineapple House
Is it really a SpongeBob aquarium without SpongeBob’s iconic yellow pineapple house? SpongeBob got his house when it fell off a ship. But, strangely enough, it’s able to grow back even on the bottom of the sea. That’s fiction for ya!
While SpongeBob picked a pineapple as his home because he liked the smell, the aquarium version doesn’t smell like anything. But that’s okay. Your fish will like it anyway because it’s a great place to hide. With so many openings, it’s also a great place to play.
To be truly authentic, you’ll want to be sure to get a pet snail named Gary to live in the house like Spongebob has in the show.
The pineapple house is about six inches tall and three inches in diameter, making it appropriate for even larger fish bowls.
Bikini Bottom Homes
Bikini Bottom is home to about 50,000 fish, but the metro area has a whopping population of 4.5 million. So it’s a good thing everybody doesn’t get a hankering for a Krabby Patty at the same time!
All those fish have to live somewhere. Adding the Bikini Bottom cityscape buildings can give real depth to your recreation of Bikini Bottom. Unfortunately, there aren’t any openings in the building, but that doesn’t mean they’re not useful. You fish will still enjoy darting between the buildings. Add a few around the tank to grow your city.
You’ll want to keep the scale of these in mind when adding them to your tank. These buildings are only 3.25 inches long, 1.5 inches wide, and 3 inches high. While they’re smaller than the pineapple house, they still look nice in the background.
What did SpongeBob say to the Krabby Patty? Give up? He said, “Pleased to eat you!”
The recipe for Krabby Patties is a closely-guarded secret, but you can serve up Krabby Patties if you own a franchise. Still haven’t gotten in your last order of Krabby Patties? Never fear. You can still drop your fish’s favorite food directly from above Krusty Krabs for them to enjoy.
The windows and door allow most small and medium fish to spend time at The Krusty Krab. They’re likely to hang around inside even when it’s not feeding time. Since there are only openings in the front, it will fit nicely at the back of the tank or in a corner with no need for extra room to escape out the back.
The Krusty Krab measures 3.5 inches high, 3.75 inches long, and 2.25 inches wide, so it is in scale with the pineapple house.
Squidward’s Easter Island Home
Squidward’s house looks like a Moai, one of the giant statues from Easter Island.
In some episodes, Squidward’s backyard has a garden. So, if you want to do a planted tank, the area behind Squidward’s house might be the perfect location for some plants.
Fish can go in and out of the giant Moai’s mouth and eyes, making a fascinating effect. If I had a small tank that could only fit one decoration, I’d choose this one just to be able to watch fish go in and out of facial orifices.
When you’re trying to determine the scale of the Easter Island home to the rest of your SpongeBob decorations, you’ll need to know that this decoration is 6.5 inches high, 3.5 inches wide, and 3 inches deep. Thus, it pairs well with the pineapple house and is small enough for nearly any tank.
6 Piece Character Set
Adding a character set to your tank can make the theme come together really well. You can use the characters or place them in a Bikini Bottom city setting.
The set contains six characters
- Patrick Star
- Sandy Cheeks
- Mr. Krabs
- Sheldon J. Plankton
If you have some of the other pieces I’ve listed, you can place SpongeBob outside his pineapple house, Squidward outside his Easter Island home, and Mr. Krabs outside the Krab Shack.
Each character fits perfectly with the other items I’ve listed here. They’re slightly taller than the doors to their homes and businesses, but you do want them to be a little taller so that they’re easier to see in your tank.
16 Piece Gift Set
This 16-piece set combines most of the items from my list with some other things to make it the ultimate SpongeBob-themed aquarium. The set includes:
- SpongeBob’s pineapple house
- The Krusty Krab restaurant
- Squidward’s Easter Island house
- Two SpongeBobs (one saluting and one snowboarding)
- Patrick Star
- Sandy Cheeks
- Mr. Krabs
- Sheldon J. Plankton
- Four brightly-colored plastic aquarium plants
- A bag of gold accent nuggets
- A tank background (varies)
You don’t have to worry about needing a huge aquarium to accommodate this set. It will all fit in a tank as small as 10 gallons.
The only thing this set is missing is a Shipwreck Aquarium Decoration.

While you can just choose your favorite SpongeBob aquarium decorations for your tank, my recommendation is to go all out and get the 16-piece gift set since it’s such a value and contains so many pieces you’ll probably ultimately end up wanting.
Not a fan of Nickelodeon how about using some Disney Aquarium Decorations in your next tank.
If there’s something that you want that you don’t see here, you can always add some DIY aquarium decorations. The only limit is your imagination.
